Who we are, who leads us, and the case for LGBTQ+ representation in the boardroom.

Mission

Why LGBTQ+ board representation matters, and the evidence behind it.

Our mission

To advance boardroom excellence by educating, connecting and supporting LGBTQ+ directors and board-ready leaders, increasing LGBTQ+ representation on corporate boards as a result.

PRISM: The Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings that mission to life. Through research, education, mentorship, and strategic partnerships, we work with companies, investors, and governance leaders to build a future in which LGBTQ+ leaders thrive in boardrooms across the country.

Our history

PRISM was founded in June 2022, when a small group of out LGBTQ+ directors and executives recognized that no organization existed specifically to represent and connect LGBTQ+ leaders in the corporate boardroom, unlike nearly every other underrepresented group in corporate America. At the time, LGBTQ+ directors held an estimated 0.6% of Fortune 500 board seats, a number that had barely moved in five years and became an important benchmark for the organization.

In 2023, a $350,000 grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation helped accelerate PRISM's growth. Since then, PRISM has grown to more than 15 members and deepened its engagement with the U.S. corporate governance ecosystem, including NASDAQ, NYSE, NACD, and PDA.

Leadership Circle

The PRISM Leadership Circle

The PRISM Leadership Circle brings together senior corporate directors, each with at least five years of board experience, who share a desire to help the LGBTQ+ community advance in the boardroom. Members lend their names and experience to get to know one another, build a community of peers, and help create opportunities for aspiring directors.

The Circle is an informal, non-fiduciary group, separate from PRISM's governing board, although several members serve on both. Announced at the 4th Annual PRISM Summit on October 26, 2026, it will formally convene in 2027.
